What We Do


A taste of pure Southern hospitality is all yours when you use Creative Catering By Wanda for your wedding or catering event. We have over 25 years of cooking experience, and many more in the hospitality field. We smoke Eastern NC barbeque, char grill steaks, cook succulent prime rib, smoke brisket, sauté and fry local seafood and chicken, and sauté our award-winning crab cakes. We incorporate local vegetables and fruits with each menu.

In addition to scrumptious Southern catering, we also offer bundle services that include planning events, wedding cakes, officiating, custom catering menus, calligraphy, and rentals.

How We Work

We love to listen to a bride’s version of her wedding day. Combining her thoughts and using our expertise and experience allows us to put together the perfect menu. We enjoy pleasing our guests with delicious Southern cooking and gracious hospitality.

Diversifying our menu choices and selections allows us to create custom menus for all tastes. As our clients’ requests range from authentic pig roasts to elegant reception menus, we keep our menu flexible. If you do not see what you are looking for then please suggest it to us.

Who We Are

We are true native Outer Bankers, born with sand in our shoes. We love the Outer Banks for its balmy weather, its interesting annual visitors, and its diverse local produce.

wanda1Wanda got into the catering business after retiring from teaching in 2006, turning into practice what was previously a hobby. She quickly found her niche in Wanda’s Catering, predecessor to Creative Catering By Wanda, and applied her knowledge of local recipes to make unique and satisfying menus. Once the word was out, requests came pouring in for much more than her delicious menu. Wanda is now our master caterer, personally offering many one-of-a-kind services such as officiating, calligraphy, and event planning in addition to her renowned menus. Courteous and hard-working, Wanda combines Southern hospitality with a strong creative vision.

bj-pit1BJ is the other half of the mind behind Creative Catering By Wanda. In 2005 he opened BJ’s Carolina Café, and quickly became known for his ability to prepare food that was instantly Southern yet completely unique. Working at the restaurant allowed him to experiment with recipes and flavors, which was met with success. Not only is he a BBQ Pit Master, his crabcakes won recognition in the Virginia Pilot newspaper and local news media. In January 2014 his son Benjamin took over the Carolina Café, leaving BJ free to work full-time with Creative Catering By Wanda and offer his personal touch on all pig roasts, fish fries, and of course his famous crabcakes.


Our team is comprised of excellent chefs known for their skill and professionalism, both in the kitchen and out. Each chef has their specialty, but all are picked for friendliness and adaptability. Whether it’s manning the carving station or putting the final touches on your wedding cake, our team is here to take care of you – Southern style!
